Gospel

The word gospel has the thought of "good news" or a "good message".

Origin of the Message?

The good message is called the "gospel of God" (Rom 1:1, 1 Thess 2:9), meaning, it originates from God himself.

Where can I read more about this good message?

The themes of the gospel message are present throughout the entire Holy Bible; from the first book of Genesis to the last book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ.

There are four books in the Holy Bible that include the title 'Gospel'; they are the Gospel of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.  These books are not biographies of the writers, but they are the eyewitness accounts of the life and teaching of Jesus.

Each of the Gospel writers had something specific to say about the significance of Jesus and each carefully selected materials and arranged them to carry a particular emphasis.  The Gospels contain a great deal of historic information, but that information is always used by the writers to show that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and the Savior of the World.

Gospel of Matthew

And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
— Matthew 9:35

The Gospel of Matthew is the "Glad message of the King".  Matthew places an emphasis on Jesus in his relationship to Israel and all peoples as the fulfillment of the promised King.   Matthew details the invitations given by Jesus to be part of his Kingdom and describes the character of his Kingdom.

Gospel of Mark

For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
— Mark 10:45

The Gospel of Mark is the "Good message of the Servant". Mark’s Gospel has a large emphasis on the servant character of Jesus, ultimately displayed in a final act of giving himself to the Crucifixion of Cross.  Over half of Mark's writing is focused on the details of the pivotal events of the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus

Gospel of Luke

The Gospel of Luke is the "Gospel of the man Christ Jesus". Luke’s Gospel takes care to present Jesus as a man of grace, the bringer of joy to our world, to the oppressed and outcasts people, giving attention to the poor and women.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
— Luke 4:18
For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost
— Luke 19:10

The Gospel of John is the "Gospel of Heaven, of the Son of God".  John’s Gospel account presents the person of Jesus Christ as the eternal God, coming into humanity, who was seen, heard and touched.   Through the reading of the book the reader is presented with seven great miracles as signs proving that Jesus is the Son of God.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth
— John 1:14
But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
— John 19:31
